war of the worlds

we all met up to see war of the worlds in costa mesa tonite. we had a few beers at karl strauss first and then checked it out. i think i mighta been too excited to see this, and that’s why i feel a bit let down. i’ve been reading the book, and i was only half way through it, so i guess i was expecting a greater ending. i think tom cruise is a really good actor. after all the shit that’s been going on with him in the media, i totally beleived his character in the movie. i thought it was pretty intense and i enjoyed it for the most part. the thing that kept going through my mind was the idea of complete hopelessness that people in that situation would feel. i’m sure the human resolve would likely keep you fighting until the end. but when it seems that hopeless, i bet most of the people would just hope for a quick death. i’m going to go finish reading the book.

edit: so i finished reading the book. the ending was pretty much the same. the aliens were overly prone to our germs and bacteria because they didn’t have evolving bacteria on their planet, mars =p. i’ve been thinking alot about the movie, and i think it was pretty awsome, except for the ending. i think steven could’ve come up with a better ending, although, i’m sure the diehard fans, then’d complain of him not sticking to the original. and what was with that kid living? the super happy ending for that family was a little to disney for me.

skin beauty for japanese models and office workers

this story is pretty wacky from top to bottom so to speak =p

—–
Looking after one’s skin is a top priority for women in maintaining beauty, but the methods models use to keep their skin looking good differ from those used by female office workers, surveys conducted by cereal maker Kellog Co. have revealed.

When the women were asked how they kept their skin beautiful, again with multiple answers permitted, the top answer was “cosmetics” at 74.6 percent, followed by “getting a good amount of sleep” (52.6 percent), “taking care not to get constipation” (51.9 percent), and “maintaining a balanced diet” (50.8 percent).

In a similar survey conducted on 105 models, skin beauty was also the top answer when it came to feminine beauty, accounting for 85.7 percent of respondents, but when models were asked what they were doing to look after their skin, the top priority was “sleep” at 70.5 percent.

Next came “diet” at 61.0 percent and “avoiding constipation” at 51.4 percent. “Cosmetics” was ranked in seventh place, at only 43.8 percent.

first of all, why the hell is kellog cereal company conducting surveys about japanese office workers and model’s beauty secrets? not that i wouldn’t pick the same two groups if i was required to conduct some sorta survey, but that just seems pretty weird. and as far as their answers, i understand the sleeping, diet, and cosmetics… those all sound like measures to beautify skin (although the multiple selection that they mentioned skews responses, they should’ve asked for a single best response to accurately guage the differences if they had a large enough sample) but what the hell does preventing constipation have to do with keeping beautiful skin? and what do they exactly mean by that? taking a shit frequently? crazy japscat girls =p

war of the worlds

i can’t wait to see this movie. i actually even started reading the book, but i doubt i’ll be done by tomorrow. i just wish there wasn’t all of this crazy tom cruise all over the news. it’s like he’s become bipolar or something. and as nutty as he’s been it might be that much harder to believe his character in the movie. i heard he hired his sister as his pr person, and it seems that she’s doing a bang up job. i understand preaching your beliefs and your religious ideas, but interviews about movies are the wrong place to do it, and tom cruise is making scientologists look even nuttier than before.

fixed the air conditioner on the integra

see, when i shave my head, i become 100% less lazy. the weather’s been getting pretty damn hot, so i decided after work today to see if i couldn’t figure out the ac on my car that’s been broke for a while. a while back a bolt that held an ac pulley broke off inside the block, so i’d been kinda sol. the weather seemed nice enough this evening though, and i figured it’s only gonna get hotter so i opened it up. i removed the power steering assembly to get to the ac compressor. i had to remove the compressor to get to the main bracket that holds the assembly. i pulled it off and chiseled the remaining part of the bolt out. john fabbed a new bolt, and after reassembling everything, the damn thing worked, go figure. so yeh, the summer’s shaping up. the boating is gonna be hot and the driving’s gonna be cool.

steve harvey: big time

i was watching steve harvey’s game show big time, where contestants do different crazy shit to win $10,000. usually these shows kinda bore me, ‘casue they’re people doing lame things like on david letterman’s stupid human tricks… but the people on this show do some crazy ass impressive shit. this one guy hit a golf ball through a 1/4″ thick peice of plywood, then through an 800 page phonebook… the ballspeed was over 200mph! then the guy that won was this 51 year old black dude, who put 3, ~105lb, sexy girls on his kneck and both sides and then jumped rope 20 times. anyway, i was really impressed.

another boat day

the weather was really nice today, so me, costin, marvin, dave and aurora took out the boat. we cruised out into the harbor and just blasted around for a couple of hours, when we came back into the channels we headed over to marine stadium and i did some freezing-cold water skiing. it really seemed too cold, but i kept talkin’ about it so i figured i had to deliver. i didn’t have my wetsuit or even swimtrunks but i still jumped it and did a few runs… did really well too, got up each time just fine and my only good wipeout was when costin tried to take me around the buoy at 30mph… got a good gulp of salt water that time :) boat seems to be in good repair though. looks like summer’s gonna be pretty fucking fun.

they say there’s 2 happy day’s in a boat owner’s life…

they day you buy it, and the day you sell it. well today was a happy day :) me and eric just cruised around the harbor, because he had a wedding to go to later in the day. think it’s gonna be a pretty fun summer.

and i sacrificed my locks in what’s becoming an annual tradition to honor the gods of summer.
