i was out on the water for like 8 hours today. me, costin, mike, dave, lyle and 2 of his friends went out on the boat today to start the wakeboarding season off. the water was pretty damn cold, but mike leant me his full suit and once we got in the water it was bearable. the marine stadium was closed because of some stupid canoe race so we went to our special cove in the ocean, next to shorline village. afterwards, me and eric went back out to do some sunset fishing. i caught 3 sandbass, the 3rd one was huge, about 20 inches. a great day, but i’m f’ing spent.

so this movie is getting great reviews from all the critics who’s opinions i respect, but i just don’t think i’ll see it a for a few reaons. even though it’s 5 years later, i think it’s still too soon to reinact this. i think it still hits too close for too many people that they can watch it and enjoy it. the thing that really irks me about this, is that we don’t really know what happened on the plane. it’s like “the perfect storm” where all they knew was that those guys were out fishing in a storm, and never came back. there was some intermittent radio communication but not enough to make the 2 hour story, so most of it was made up. (i remember the families of those fisherman being upset with the movie.) anyway, having not seen it yet, i imagine it’s about how heroic the passengers were and how they overtook the terrorists but then couldn’t fly the plane and crashed, but saved the capital. now that’s a great story, but i think it’s just as likely that the passengers started to revolt, the terrorist pilot got scared and just crashed the plane, or the terrorist pilot just couldn’t fly the plane and crashed before the passengers could do anything, or maybe the military just shot the plane down, and was happy to see this movie come out to help engrave this story into the people’s minds. anyway, it comes out tonite, i guess we’ll see what everyone else thinks on monday.

so my otherwise boring drive to work this morning was upset by a full fledged police pursuit on the 405. i was just passing the dominguez golf course, heading northbound at about 8:45a when i saw lights flashing behind me, i was like ‘aw fuck’ i look down at my speedo and saw i was only going about 70, but i thought maybe i was in trouble for exceeding the 50mph speed limit of my emergency tire i’ve been using all week =p when i looked back up into my mirror i saw about 10 sets of lights and for a second i fantasized that they were really after me. i soon realized they were after the black maxima in the carpool lane and i quickly moved all the way over. about 20 torrance pd and chp cars passed by, 2 police helicoptors and about 5 local news helicoptors.

just as the pursuit was almost too far infront of me to see (i could tell that they seemed to be trying to transition to the 110), lisa may from the kevin and bean show gave her traffic report and mentioned that there was a pursuit, and i guess she was watching it on tv, because she was like “oh my god, he just crashed on the 110″, as i caught up to it and passed by. exciting.

so that homie ben bought me a bottle of 16yr lagavulin scotch as an engagement gift. i haven’t had a night that i could enjoy a drink at home for a while, but tonite, i sat down, qued up an epi of house, busted out the baccarat crystal, and poored a glass. i’ve only ever had a few scotches but i really like this. it tastes very different than the glenlivet i usually drink… very smokey and smooth. damn ben grooming my expensive habbits >:o

we all had a great time. i’m hurting pretty bad though having not done any training at all. it took me about 10 minutes longer than the first one did (the second one i did on a tandem and it took me an extra hour). anyway, the cramps and less than expected performance will help drive me to train hard all summer for next september race.

this year we stayed in la fonda, which was about 20 miles south of rosarito. the place was awesome, with 2 balconies with an amazing view, and way classier than the days inn we usually stay at in ensenada:
