$7.99 chicken dinner at ralphs

i’m on a big eating schedule again, being sure to take in at least 3000 calories, and not counting after i get over that number per day, but i’ve had some pretty big calorie days lately. anyway, since taka’s not here to cook, i’ve been eating out almost every night and it’s getting pricey. i found a great deal at ralphs though. a whole cooked chicken, one pound of potato salad, one pound of macaroni salad, a loaf of that french bread in a paper bag and a 2-liter bottle of diet coke for $7.99, and no tax since it’s food. anyway, that makes for 2 meals and a couple mid-day snacks, not to mention 3 coke rewards points!

the black dahlia

on saturday night, i thought i’d see a sophisticated movie, unintoxicated, to balance out the jackass 2 from the night before. so ben and i went to see the black dahlia, which looked interesting enough from the previews. anyway, it was boring as balls. we actually walked out about half way through because we just couldn’t take it anymore. the only thing that kept me slightly entertained was that ben’s chair kept squeaking and he was feeling embarrased to the point of moving =p

i posted a thread on this message board i usually troll, asking how it ended, and half of the people that responded said that they either walked out or fell asleep. out of the 15 responses, one person actually saw it through:

the ugly weird looking mom (of that dark haired horny nymph girl from the looney rich family) is the one that killed betty or whatever the fuck her name was. then bucky shoots that dark haired horny nymph girl from the looney rich family. then bucky goes back to kay’s house and they probably fucked again.

sounds like walking out wasn’t a bad choice.

it started with 24oz beers, a pickup truck and a dare…

follow this if you can: me, my friend john galeano, costin, his friend pierre and lauren went to the movies the other day to see jackass 2… and to see a movie like that for all it’s worth, you need to watch it completely drunk… so after a few drinks at dinner, we went to the liquior store to properly prepare. i was going to buy a coors light 12oz six pack for $5.99, but then realized they had a 3 pack of 24oz beers for $3.99. still sober enough to do the simple math, i went with the latter. the movie was fucking hilarious and gross and insane. on one of the many bathroom breaks i had to take during the movie, i ran into john and pierre who were talking about how they wanted to jack the 8′ b0rat poster in the lobby. so after we got outta the movie, pierre pulled up front and john galeano just put it under his arm and walked out like he owned it. he got a smile and a giggle from a group of girls that saw him, but other than them, there were only a few concession people that might have seen it, and they were too far away to catch him even if they had wanted to. he tossed it in the bed and hopped in and we peeled out like we just robbed a bank. it’s funny how worked up and excited we had got about it… afterall, it was just a cardboard poster ;)

survivor: cook islands epi2

man, what a great show. so the asians are kicking ass, having won the second competition in a row, and seem to be the team to beat. the latino team (which i confuse constantly with the white team, because those are the whitest latinos i’ve ever seen) got rid of their laziest member, so only the white and the asian team haven’t lost any members yet… huzzah! now that i’ve got to know the members, i bet either the korean guy or the korean girl win it all, and i bet this all ties in somehow with ‘lost’ which i wish would start back up already.

cingular wireless customer service

so as i was waiting on hold for like 20 minutes this morning with customer service at cingular i was all pissed off, thinking how horrible they are since they’re making me wait this long. my cell phone bill was $300 for the second time in a row, when it should be closer to $130 (i’ve got 3 lines on my account). when the lady finally answered the phone, i was ready to yell and be an angry disgruntled customer, but she was so polite and almost more quickly than i could explain the problem said she’d just go ahead and credit my account $200! anyway, that ended up being $30 less than it should’ve been but that’s ok by me. so yeh, cingular hold time = terrible. solving my problem = fantastic.

snowboard project for taka

mike and i were talking a couple of weeks ago about the coming snowboarding season and i was telling him how i need to get taka outfitted with some gear. he remembered that his fat ex-roomate had a snowboard that she never used, so he slept with her (or maybe he just had dinner with her, i keep forgetting) to ask if he could have it. since she was too fat to use it, she gave it to him and then he gave it to taka.

the board was a bit beat up, but the bindings were great and the board, other than superficially being ugly was in sound shape. today i decided to get to work on it. my ultimate plan is for a light pink color with embedded white flowers in the front. but first i needed to get rid of that awful red color and get down to the fiberglass before i start.

here’s the board as it started off:

i used aircraft stripper to melt off the old paint (turns out it was a repaint, which i had suspected since it looked so ugly). it’s crazy how this stuff works, you spray it on and the paint just melts off. it also has a huge warning that states: “this product contains methylene chloride which causes cancer” :) after working with it for a bit, i got down to the original graphics… ugly:

once i cleaned up all the goop, i started sanding with a 120# then up to a 220# and then a 400# before i shot my first 2 coats of sandable primer:

to be continued…

wakeboard breakthrough

last season we seemed content with just being able to stand up on the wakeboard and get pulled around the stadium. we’d cross the wake, but not really jump at all, and we did a bit of switch foot and carving but that was about it. this season we started jumping on the wake and getting some of our first “air”. after hanging out with mike’s buddy rob last weekend and then testing it this weekend, we figured out what we needed to do. to make it all look right, we had to clear the entire wake (up one side of the ramp and down the other).

well by adding more speed, slightly shortening the rope, and just being a bit more fearless, me and mike can now clear the entire wake. it’s the most insane feeling, because the landing is super smooth and fast that it doesn’t feel like you get nearly as much air as you do. we used to just jump on the front of the wake and land somewhere in the middle and that always felt huge because the landing was so harsh. but landing on the opposite side feels amazing. with the increased speed though, one of my wipeouts was pretty hard. i got flung so far under the water that i wasn’t sure which way was up for a split second. it actually took me a couple of runs to get my nerve back, but my last jump of the day was a clean wake-to-wake. anyway, this has upped my interest in getting a waketower now that we can actually do it right. too bad the season’s just about up.
