halo 3 = finished

took me long enough, huh? overall, pretty good game. the last level was super short, and no final super hard boss? not that there were really any final bosses throughout the game… the ending was pretty good too. make sure you watch it all the way through the credits ;)

so for all the halo hype hating i did…

i like irony and hipocracy. i actually went to the midnight release at gamestop and waited in line with the nerds to be one of the first people to get their paws on the game. by the time i got home i really was too tired to watch much more than the intro and play for a few minutes.

i never played the other 2 games in the halo series, even though i had an original xbox. it wasn’t until recently that i got into first-person-shooters, and to be honest, real fps games like halo still kind of bore me. the game play in the campaign is too linear, and it’s just a mix of duck/strafe/jump/shoot throughout the whole game. one day after the release, and i am almost done with the game. i would have finished it last night if it weren’t for the huge battle me, eric, ben and his brother had for a few hours. overall, the game is pretty much what i expected. i’m not too familiar with the storyline, so i don’t have much emotional involvment in the characters, the graphics are really decent, but not amazing, and the gameplay is good, except for the second to last level, which is crap.

the multiplayer is great and i foresee many a mornings where i’m going to barely make it into the office after a long night gaming with friends. and i couldn’t look any more ridiculous doing it (we’ve all got headsets so we can talk while we battle, it’s fangeektastic.)

so yeh, get this game and get on xbl. i’m super kento.

random tv stuff

paul moyer news @ 11 teaser: (showing scene of a wrecked car) “it looks like no one could have survived this accident… (dramatic pause) …and no one did.”

also, ben was right, journey man on nbc is fucking awesome. and the main character sports an iphone and an omega seamaster to boot!

good luck chuck

taka and i went to see good luck chuck yesterday and it was hilarious. the previews had me thinking it was just a story about a dude and a severely clumsy (and severely hot) girl, but that wasn’t the premise at all.

the main plot is that because of a spell cast upon him in elementary school, dane cook is a good luck charm to any woman he bangs, and the next man she meets she’ll fall in love with and marry. this has women lining up to be with him, and when he meets a girl that he falls in love with and doesn’t want to lose, comedy ensues.

a great sunday brunch/margarita monday type movie, with tons of boobies (most boobs i’ve seen in a non-porno this year) and lots of sex0rz, so don’t take your parents or your kids. and make sure you stay for the credits, ’cause 3 boobs are always better than 2.

edit: damn, i must have no taste in movies, ’cause it got horrible reviews. i tell you, those reviewers have no appreciation for good boobs.

iphone goodies

i’ve been rocking the macally msleeve for about 2 weeks now, and am still diggin’ it. i wanted a svelte case that would protect my phone from getting scratched up by keys or loose change in my pocket, and wouldn’t make the phone much bigger. the msleeve fits the phone like a shoe, securing it pretty tightly, and leaving the headphone jack and volume buttons available. most of the other options left the screen unprotected, so that you could use it while it was in the case, but that wouldn’t solve my scratchy key/change problem, and i can’t stand those silicon cases because they get pocket lint and just about everything else stuck to them, yuck.

also yesterday, apollo released their v1.0 of their instant messaging software, that now supports aim, icq and msn. the notification system is also the way i’d expect it to be natively and so far it seems really stable, and they completely re-did their interface to make it look mac-like without being too geek-like. i wonder if apple will even bother releasing an ichat now that the third party guys have come so far?

i bought an hd tivo series 3

yep, back with good ‘ole tivo brand tivo. i remember a few years back when my first tivo was a hand-me-down gift from ben for letting him borrow my honda civic while he was in between cars. it was the greatest and only thing out there. the problem was interfacing with the cable box was really slow since there was no cable card support, and once i went HD, regular tivo was pretty worthless.

tivo eventually caught up and put out an hd tivo that had cable card support and atsc tuners, but it was about $1000, so i went with the moxi box offered from charter. however the interface of the moxi box sucked, the system was super slow, and it seemed i could only store a few hours of hd content. at the end of the tv season last year, i went ahead and ditched hd cable altogether and found the goodness of free over the air hd.

finally last month tivo released an affordable version of their hd tivo, and since good fall tv is starting again i pulled the trigger. for now i’m still just doing ota broadcast, but i really only ever watch 2,4,5,7,11, and when i’m feeling black gay or mexican or both, 13.

setting up tivo with the familiar beeps and bloops felt like hanging out with a long-lost friend. tivo, you’ve made tv fun again.

finished bioshock - wow

damn that was an amazing game. the ending was a bit disappointing, but the storyline was great, and the game play was psychologically terrifying in parts, especially in surround sound, late at night. i’m honestly kinda happy to be finished with it, ’cause i’ve been thinking about it and dreaming about it in the week i’ve been playing. halo 3 also comes out on tuesday, so i needed to have my xbox calendar clear ;)bioshock also has lots of accomplishment points that are easy to get. i picked up about 300 or so points playing the game on medium difficulty. i’ll probably play the game again on the hard setting, and not kill any 5-year old girls, but i’m going to loan it out for now and have it out of my house and out of my head at least for a little while.

i got punk’d - camping edition

i spent the whole weekend with dave and some of his russian buddies at lake perris. we wakeboarded all day on saturday, did the camping thing in the evening and then wakeboarded most of sunday too. overall i’d have to say that this was one of my favorite camping trips.

the wakeboarding was awesome and dave and i were doing some fucking retarded tricks that in un-drunken hindsight was probably a bad idea (think tying the rope around your neck so that you can do a no-hands… we do got sweet pics of it though) all three girls picked up the wakeboarding right away, so we got to spend the whole trip just having fun and not pull-after-pull of trying to figure it out.

i come to find out that not only do russians know how to drink, but they know how to eat too. usually i do burgers and dogs when i go camping, but these guys? dinner consisted of lamb, steak, jumbo shrimp and quail for god’s sake, quail! and tons of side dishes. during the day there were constant cold-cuts and all kinds of snacks for the boat too.

so yeh, about me getting punk’d… after the first bottle or two of vodka sasha said “let’s play animal charades”… “kent, i’ll whisper the name of an animal to you and you try to act it out, and we’ll have 60 seconds to guess what it is”. i was pretty tipsy, and as she was talking, she was kinda leading me away from the table we were all sitting at, and started talking about other stuff… and i kinda forgot about the game, and then she’s like “oh yeh, the game… ok, you be a kangaroo”. so i walk back to where everybody’s at and i started acting like a fucking kangaroo. hopping around, pretending to have a pouch, punching, everything i can think of, but these dumb russians aren’t getting it. so sasha pulls me aside again and says “ok, something easier… you’re a monkey” so i go back, confident that they’ll get this one, i’m scratching my armpits, peeling a banana, pretending to swing from tree to tree. the whole time people are calling out every fucking animal but a monkey, and then someone yells “time!” and i’m like “are you guys fucking kidding me? i’m a monkey goddamnit!” and they all start busting out laughing.

they said they’ve pulled the same prank on every new person in the group, and that now, i’m officially a russian =p
