cdl checkpoint: wtf?

on my short drive to work this morning while i was on marine ave going through hawthorne there was a forced california drivers license checkpoint, with about 30 police cars on the scene. i assume it was part of some crackdown initiative on unlicensed drivers, or maybe it’s more of an immigration thing trying to crack down on illegals and look out for terrorists? they were pulling lots of people over that i guess either didn’t have their license or looked shady for whatever reason. i flashed my license and they let me through without even really looking at it, i guess i didn’t fit the profile for whoever they were looking for.

pacific sales is a great place to buy a refrigerator

my new apartment didn’t come with a fridge so i had to buy one and eric pointed me to pacific sales. great prices and non-pushy sales people helped me quickly find a fridge i liked, and they delivered it for free today. i had expected since the delivery was free that they’d just drop the box off in my kitchen, but they took it out of the box, installed all the handles and plastic pieces, plugged it in and even wiped it down since it has a stainless steel finish and smudges easily. anyway, big ups to pacific sales yo! =p

i love moving.

sorry for the lack of posts lately, but this weekend i moved and most of you know how crazy that always is. aside from the usual perils of moving it was raining, and for a while it was coming down really hard. there was water shooting out of the sewers and it was windy and i had all my shit out there in the rain inbetween my old apartment and the truck. luckily there wasn’t any rain related damage in the move, and when we got to the southbay the rain had completely given way to blue skies. it was a welcoming way to come home.

thanks to the homies that helped out. that’s gotta’ve been the most intense move yet.

get big! - my 12 week plan for getting ready for summer

i woke up this morning and realized i don’t have enough blogs. born from that realization came getbig.kentomatic.com. get big! will be a diary of my 12 week Max-OT workout plan and progress, and will have all the sexy pictures of me you can handle. it won’t be a particularly interesting blog day-to-day, but hopefully in 3 months it will show some interesting progress and change. this will also be the first time i’ve stuck to a regimented workout schedule, and the first time i’ll be in the gym monday through friday. wish me luck and enjoy the blog.

iphone replaced ’cause of a stuck pixel

a few weeks ago, i noticed a stuck green pixel on my phone and kinda disregarded it because it wasn’t every noticeable. when the firmware 1.1.3 came out and i could move my icons around, i wanted my alarm clock icon in a particular space and since the icon has a lot of black in it, the green pixel was noticeable all the time.

on tuesday i went to the apple store near my office and some goofy salesguy told me i’d need an appointment with a “genius” and to come back on thursday at lunch. i showed up, told the guy my problem and he swapped out my phone right there. no questions or fancy paperwork or anything. just my signature and a new phone. yay apple!

r.i.p. heathcliff ledger

heathcliff.jpg

it’s pretty tragic that he died so young, and his sudden passing makes life/death seem so much more real since he was only a few months older than me. what irks the fuck out of me though is how a million different stories start flying around about what it was that killed him. i know that in today’s information age we expect to know everything minutes after it happens, and csi vegas/miami/ny if nothing else has taught us that a full autopsy and toxicology report is only a sexy technician’s wink and ass-shake away. but seriously, why not just grieve however you need to and get the whole story after it unfolds. i personally couldn’t care less, but it’s gotta be really hard for his family to hear. apparently the family was first notified via media reports, which is weird, ’cause info like that isn’t supposed to be released until after the family is notified — that crazy jew harvey levin is hooked up.

i’ve heard and read everything from complications of pneumonia, to sleeping pill overdose, to snorting coke off the ass of an olsen twin through a rolled $20 bill. the poor guy’s dead, let him rest in peace and let his family grieve. i’m sure we’ll know everything soon enough.

since brad renfro and heath make 2… britney, please be the number 3 in this Ménage à trois of death. please!

magic fireball!

i saw someone doing this on gizmodo so i thought i’d try it myself. it’s actually a little hotter than i thought it would be, but as long as you’re moving it around it’s fine. i would’ve kept doing it but i ran out of lighter fluid right when i turned the lights out. i’ll buy some more and try again:

cloverfield = awesome

statue of liberty - no head

i was too sick to see cloverfield in the theatre this weekend, so i watched a hand-cam torrent of it (ironic?). i should’ve videoed myself watching the videoed version of these kids videoing their experience. it was pretty awesome though and i can’t say much about it without spoiling the things that made it rad, but it was pretty exciting. it was a bit dizzying when they were running around but the effect added to the suspense, much like the blair witch project.

if i can find time, i’ll go see it on the big screen next weekend. this movie has also given me some faith that jj abrams won’t totally let me down when they bring lost to an end in a couple of years.

fack! i hate being sick

i’ve been completely laid out since friday. i haven’t even been answering my phone or doing anything other than laying on the couch and watching tv. now that i’m feeling a little better this evening, it makes me appreciate how good i feel when i’m not sick. i took a drive with the top down hauling ass on slick streets and the cool air just felt so damn good after i’d been cooped up for like 72 hours straight in my apartment.

at least my annual cold happened after the holidays this year. it usually comes right in the middle of either christmas or my birthday. this year i only missed the martin luther king parade.

unintentional intentional drowsy driving

drowsy driving is dangerous, and for me it’s a lot more scary than drunk driving. when i’m buzzed, i’m paying extra attention to my driving, well aware that my reflexes aren’t as good, but when i’m drowsy i’m not paying attention to anything, and that whole almost falling asleep thing is fucking nuts.

so today i left work at 11am because i’m getting a cold and my nose wouldn’t stop running. i figured that i would stop by the ralphs near my work and pick up some benadryl, pop 2, and in the 15 minute, traffic-free drive, i’d be getting drowsy just as i got home and and could just pass out. so after 5 minutes on the 405, traffic is stopped. the caltrans sign says that it’s 65 minutes to the 605 freeway, and google maps on my iphone says its more like an hour an half! anyway, i made it home, but it was a hell of a long and groggy drive. i can’t wait until i move to the southbay and have a 5 mile drive to work.
