damn it, i’ve got dandruff!
i buzzed off my hair a few weeks ago, and last week i buzzed it even shorter a day before eric and i spent 5 hours out on the boat during one of the sunniest days of the year. i put sunscreen on my face, ears, neck and arms, but i forgot to put some on me noggin. i got pretty badly sunburned on my very fair scalp, but mostly forgot about it because it didn’t hurt too bad, until yesterday when it started to peel, but of course it just looks like regular ole’ dandruff to everyone else. i’ll be wearing light-colored shirts for the next couple of days :/
i’m off the grid — i deleted my myspace account
while i’m into and all for social networking services, myspace has just become the bane of the internet’s existence. i’ll admit, i contributed fully to the douchebagery that makes up most of myspace with my topless flexy-flex pictures and shameless self promotion, but it was time to grow up and move on. not to mention now that i’m married, having a myspace account where half of my “friends” were sexy girls just seemed to be in pretty poor taste.
i know facebook is the new, shiny, slightly more mature and hipper site to be on, but for now i’m going to stay off the grid, undercover, breaking into veterinarian offices and staying out of sight. oh, except for kentomatic.com, and the hundred other micro social networking sites i’m on of course.
well the boat still runs but i still can’t catch fish
this weekend, eric and i took out our boat for some fishing. we hadn’t been out in months and were slightly surprised that for the most part, it ran fine. the last time we had been out we had both become so seasick that we had lost interest in fishing and the boat for quite a while. this time though, we both took seasickness pills and were fine out on the water for more than 5 hours.
unfortunately, eric and i are in quite the fishless slump. i’m not sure what happened, because we used to catch fish all the time. i think what really ruined us was that huge halibut we caught 2 summers ago, and now most of our gear and setup is aimed at fish that big. i think a return to basics might do us some good and bring the joy back into fishing - and catching. in reading fish reports it also just seems like there aren’t too many fish out there right now for whatever reason, but in a couple of weekends we’ll give it another try.
the funniest thing that happened that day though was when a large pelican and an ocean duck were sitting next to our boat waiting for some of our bait fish. the duck got a hold of one and the pelican started chasing it which made us giggle. so being an asshole, i put a live sardine on the pelican’s back and it didn’t notice it, but the duck did and started attacking the pelican. when the pelican saw that the duck stole a sardine from its back and was trying to swallow it, the pelican put its whole mouth over the duck’s head and neck trying to fight for it. eventually the duck got its head out of the pelicans mouth, but without the sardine. we taunted them with a few more fish before moving on to another spot. it was hilarious, but maybe you had to be there.

kent+taka playing tennis in torrance!
taka and i’ve been playing tennis once or twice a week on the weekends or after work. there are some really nice courts at wilson park in torrance and if those are occupied, there are about 10 courts at torrance high that we can play at too.
great exercise and we’re getting pretty good too!

anyone wanna challenge us? :)
i’m a dancin’ fool at the walton wedding
mike and lisa got their wedding pictures and they look great. i was a dancing machine at the reception after i took full advantage of their open bar. here’s a couple of pics of me in action.
taka and i are actually planning on learning to tango. there’s a dance studio just a few blocks from here that we’re going to take classes at.

4gb flash drive for $10.82 shipped
i’d been looking around for a cheap flash drive for a while, and this slickdeal fit the bill. i don’t know if any of you are looking for one, but if you are, it doesn’t get much cheaper than this:

we’ve been watching lots of movies
taka’s home most nights now so we’ve been watching movies more frequently. usually we just watch movies at home since 1. it’s free and 2. i can’t stand people. it’s also more convenient since we don’t have to get dressed up and we can drink and talk and pause for bathroom breaks. the only movie we’ve seen in the theatre recently was wall-e, which was one of the best movies i’ve seen this year, although i hear the dark knight might rival that opinion (i’m seeing it on thursday in imax). so here’s a quick list and my thoughts on the movies we’ve watched in the last couple of weeks:
scent of a woman - i was kinda bored with this movie until about half way through, but by the end i totally loved it. classic pacino. hoo-ah! (one of yahoo! japan’s top 10 movies to watch before you die?)
space cowboys - i’d seen this before, and although it’s totally unrealistic (tommy lee jones really landed on the moon? c’mon) it’s one of those heart warming fun stories about old people and the silly things they do. (also on the yahoo! japan top 10 list)
lock, stock & 2 smoking barrels - another on the yahoo! japan list that taka wanted to see. i had actually just re-watched this movie about a month ago, but it’s one that’s easy to watch again.
garden state - i’m not sure what the moral of the story is, maybe friendship, or forgiveness, or finding out who you are or maybe just that natalie portman is super cute and zach braff is totally cool. i don’t think taka liked it too much, but it’s one of my fav’s.
the eye - jessica alba is blind and finally gets new eyes, but the eyes are haunted. how much does that suck?
closer - the most brutally honest movie about love, and the sexiest natalie portman, ever.
And tonight we’re watching Run Lola Run. There are still quite a few on this Yahoo! Japan Top 10 List that Taka has, and she actually found another Top 50 list (from Japan so the selections are kinda wacky), so we have a lot of movies to watch. There aren’t too many new movies coming out that i’m looking forward to though. Tropic Thunder comes out August 13th, and i’m pretty excited about that. The Time Traveler’s wife comes out on Christmas, so that’s a ways away. Oh yea, and can’t wait for batman this thursday!
