japan v. korea in the world baseball classic final!

so all the games pretty much played out the way i thought they would and korea is playing japan for the final game tomorrow night. me, taka and ben went to the semifinal japan v. usa tonight and while the us kept up, japan was in control of the game the entire time. echo park was freezing and windy though and i think we might watch the finals in high definition at home tomorrow night.

while korea and japan are tied at 2 games a piece for the series, i really think korea is the better team this year. i think it’s gonna take a bit of luck for japan to win the classic for the second time, but i’m definitely gonna be wearing my $40 hat cheering them on.

GO JAPAN!

world baseball classic 2009: japan v korea @ petco

last tuesday taka and i drove down for an 8pm world baseball classic game at petco park. we had dinner with shali and then we all walked across the street for the game. i had bought terrible seats, but we snuck down to field level and had a great time. unfortunately japan lost, but the next day beat cuba to make it to the semi finals. tomorrow we’re going to watch japan v. usa at dodger stadium and if they win, will be playing korea again in the finals and we’ll be there for sure.

first 3d flight with my trex 450

it’s definitely not very clean and i was pretty nervous, but yeh, my first side roll. i had tried this same maneuver a couple of weeks ago and it ended pretty badly, pretty much just tilting over and hitting the ground on the side and exploding. i bought better servos (hs-65mg), took off the flybar weights (stupid that i didn’t do this the first time), and made adjustments to the collective. yee-haw!

i’m starting to hate conferencingnews.com

I browse a lot of forums and aggregators on a wide range of topics. One site that I visit, and enjoy less and less is conferencingnews.com. The site is arguably the largest aggregator of news articles about web conferencing and video conferencing services, but lately the site has just gone to shit.

Aside from being riddled with ads and profile pictures of those most retarded looking people, the site does this very annoying auto-refresh about every 10 seconds. I’m not sure if this is just to reload their little box that features the retarded people, or if it’s also to reload other ads, but it’s annoying as hell. i can’t make it half way down the page before i have to wait for the inefficient site to reload and then find my place again. Pretty much everything I hate about the site probably makes them money, but there’s a line you need to manage where you’re monetizing your site and still providing a pleasant browsing experience. I also noticed the site dropped from a page rank 5 to 4 in the last Google shuffle, so I assume other people feel the same way.

Maybe I should start up my own conferencing news aggregator…

breakfast at the oc diner

taka and i have been watching a lot of the o.c. lately. we’re about halfway though season 3, so the end is near and this morning we thought we’d go have breakfast at the diner that the newport kids are always hanging out at. the show uses the redondo beach pier quite a bit since it’s pretty close to the raleigh studios the show was filmed at. the restaurant that was always just referred to as “the diner” is actually the redondo coffee shop on the redondo beach pier in king harbor. the food is just your mediocre diner food, but it was fun, since the inside was pretty much exactly like the show.

after breakfast we walked around a bit and i snapped a few other pics of popular the o.c. locations, like the bait shop:

and sandy cohen’s beach law office:

less appropriate direct tv scenes for their commercials

i’m sure you’ve seen the direct tv commercials where they take a famous movie scene and replace it with the actor instead talking about direct tv. anyway, the college humor guys poke some good fun at it:

hooked up with google reader

i finally got around to setting up an rss reader and per ben went with the google. i spend so much time blogging that i don’t find the time to read my friends’ blogs and hopefully this will help me keep up on ‘em. for those not in the know (like i was for so long), an rss reader like google’s will just allow you to see all of the articles of the different sites you’re subscribed to off one central page.

http://www.google.com/reader

while the rss reader makes my life easier and would probably save you time, of course i’d prefer you actually come to my site :p

first baby purchase - ordered a car seat

i decided to take alex’s (and my cousin’s) advice and go with the modular car seat system, primarily for the ability to move inbetween car and stroller without strapping in/out and waking the baby. we put the chico cortina travel system on our registry, which is the stroller, car seat and baby carrier. the baby carrier/car seat is only good until about 20lbs (the stroller will still work) though, so since eric pointed me to a good deal that i couldn’t pass up, i also ordered the recaro como baby racing seat:

since we won’t need it for the first year, this will probably stay in grandma’s car until our girl outgrows the infant one. and don’t worry, once we are using it, we won’t be doing any spirited driving with it (actually, the s2000 passenger airbag can’t be turned off, so i think it’d be illegal to have a kid under 50lbs in that car anyway, and who drives an accord fast?), but at least they’ll look fast going slow.

oh, and so far we’re just registered at babies r us, you can view the registry here:

(if the link doesn’t work, we’re the only ishi’s in the country registered there)
