and the baby shopping begins

so we’re at t minus 3 months before our due date of may 21st and we’ve finally started to think about baby shower registries and baby room stuff. last weekend i painted one wall of the bedroom that will be the baby room, a lime/mint green and today i touched it up where i had missed some spots. we’re also going to paint the opposing wall the same color and leave the other two walls an off-white.

we also starting thinking about the registry and just getting an idea of the stuff we want and need and how much they cost. turns out baby stuff is expensive. we spent about 2 hours trying to find a stroller and a car seat, and we’re still not entirely decided. of course if money were no object, i’d go for the recaro seat, but at babies r us it was $300 :( there’s also just so many damn options. like there’s the complete modular option where you buy a baby carrier, that doubles as a car seat and can then be put into a stroller. the problem is that the carrier/car seat portion is only good until about 20lbs so after what, a year or so? we’d have to get another car seat. the way we’re thinking about going is to just get a nice car seat (which we can use from 5-50lbs or something) and a nice stroller.

as exhausting as the shopping and planning is, it’s exciting, because it’s making this all seem that much more real.

Everyone I know who has had kids says that you shouldn’t spend a lot of money on baby crap. It should be pretty easy to find some good quality second hand stuff from people whose babies have gotten too big for cribs and strollers.

Also, for strollers, bigger is not necessarily better. The big strollers are pretty cumbersome to pack in and out of the car and they’re hard to maneuver through tight walking spaces. If it were me, I’d be looking at those little umbrella strollers.

yeh, i really don’t have any friends or family that have already done the kids thing. i’m a total pioneer. the car seat and the stroller should last quite a while, so i wouldn’t mind spending a few bucks on a quality one. and i totally hear you about the stroller size. some of them were bigger than taka and there’d be no way she could fold/lift them in and out of the car.

Mr. Kento it is my recommendation you do get the car seat that goes up to like 22lbs just because when you have a newborn the ease of pulling out the car seat with a blanket over it is sooooo much more convenient and easy and comfortable than having to unstrap a sleeping baby in and out of the car especially at night or morning when it could be cold. The transferring in and out will be a hassle after a while, and your little girl will be able to sleep undisturbed as long as she needs to, and you just snap it on to stroller totally awesome. When your baby turns around a year you will be investing in the other seat which at that point your little girl will enjoy the new car seat better. I recommend the Britax brand. Jacob loves it. I’m sure you’ll be going for a boy in the future so you’ll be able to get two solid uses out of it.
Call me if you need advise, I’m the big daddy handling it all.
