japan v. korea in the world baseball classic final!
so all the games pretty much played out the way i thought they would and korea is playing japan for the final game tomorrow night. me, taka and ben went to the semifinal japan v. usa tonight and while the us kept up, japan was in control of the game the entire time. echo park was freezing and windy though and i think we might watch the finals in high definition at home tomorrow night.
while korea and japan are tied at 2 games a piece for the series, i really think korea is the better team this year. i think it’s gonna take a bit of luck for japan to win the classic for the second time, but i’m definitely gonna be wearing my $40 hat cheering them on.
GO JAPAN!

world baseball classic 2009: japan v korea @ petco
last tuesday taka and i drove down for an 8pm world baseball classic game at petco park. we had dinner with shali and then we all walked across the street for the game. i had bought terrible seats, but we snuck down to field level and had a great time. unfortunately japan lost, but the next day beat cuba to make it to the semi finals. tomorrow we’re going to watch japan v. usa at dodger stadium and if they win, will be playing korea again in the finals and we’ll be there for sure.

taka’s back in la, shali’s going to sd!
well, first of all taka’s back. she didn’t pass some government regulated safety test during her training and she got booted. she’s obviously disappointed, but i’m happy to have her back :)
on friday morning, me, taka and ben met up with shal and helped her take her first load of stuff down to her sd pad. it’s a really fancy, modern place in a super swanky building. it’s got floor-to-ceiling windows and you can watch the baseball game from the roof. it’s pretty insane. after we got all the stuff moved in, we went to the mall and ben waited in line for 3 hours for a gay iphone while the rest of us just did normal shopping. the funny thing about the damn line was that after all that waiting, there were still plenty of iphones left. one of the first people that were able to buy the phone actually walked past the line and sold some dimwit their iphone for $900. had he just waited for the 15 minute line to go through, he could’ve saved about $250. but that’s the insanity of apple fanboys.
that evening we walked to a local pizza place and then to another “standard”-ish bar which was cool, but by then i was pretty hammered. i don’t even remember walking back to shal’s place :)
weekend fun
last week was my off friday, so my weekend began thursday night when i went up to ben’s place with eric to play video games and watch commando, one of my favorite movies of all time. we ordered these huge chicago pizzas that cost like $50 and that i just finally finished eating yesterday.
on friday i did some shopping and hit the gym, and ended up seeing a dodgers game. the craziest thing was while i was sitting in f’d up la traffic on the 110, just laid back singing along to some tunes, i look over and the dude next to me, doing the same thing was my dad! wacky. i called him up and we chatted, i assumed he was heading to the ball game too, but turns out he was going to a karaoke competition in downtown la. i guess there’s a big one on the 30th that he’s already bought me a ticket for =p
saturday started at 5am with some mediocre fishing. the weather was good, but my stomach, the gps and the fish weren’t cooperating with me. we’ve recently changed up the area and style we fish, so we have some kinks to work out. we were about 5 or 6 miles off the coast though, so we’re slowly getting out to some real deep sea fishing. as soon as we cleaned up the boat, i met up with dave and we headed up to pv for a bike ride. i took him straight up hawthorne blvd. from pv blvd n., and he cursed me the entire, evil 1.2 miles up. there was nothing but praise for the next 16 miles though. it was some perfect weather and a great ride. afterwards our noses directed us to a bbq at bristol farms and we had some delicious, well earned tri-tip and corn-on-the-cob.
on sunday, i did some more shopping and then met up with ben to work on his car’s air conditioner. afterwards, we met up with mike and lisa and spent the rest of the day at disneyland, which was fun, esp since i hadn’t seen those guys in a while and there were lots of stories to share. we finally ended up at ihop (the only f’ing restraunt in anaheim that doesn’t close at 10p on a sunday), with a wacky waiter that really loved red lobster.
… and now i’m back at work *sigh*
cubs @ dodgers
on friday taka and i went up to la to hang out with the ben crew and watch the dodgers vs. cubs. i was in a bit of a pissy mood, ’cause i hate driving up there in traffic, but the game ended up being pretty good. the dodgers led by a few points up until the 7th when the cubs scored like 7 runs in the inning, leaving the dodgers down by 2. then in the bottom of the 8th, the dodgers scored 3, and then the japanese closer takashi saito came in to get the save. now that i’m a partial bachelor (taka’s in chicago and then sf for work for the next several months), i’ll prolly trek up to ghetto ass la and catch a lot more games this season.
here i am, calling the bullpen to bring in saito. as you can see, i had fantastic seats (note that there are no seats above me =p). in the 8th inning, where the dodgers needed to catch up in points, everyone turned their caps inside out
