american idol’s antonella barbara

oh man, i loves me a good scandal! i’ve actually been watching american idol this year, so it’s all the more interesting for me. i guess some jealous friends, or lover, or thief released some naughty photos of her posing in underwear, on the toilet, and even smoking cock! she is just about the hottest contestant in the year’s line up though. she’s definitely getting my vote tonite! i gotta keep this site semi-work safe, so here are some links:

documentary: the fog of war

(and i’m talking about a real documentary, unlike “mean girls” which mike and i tried to convince takako was a documentary)

i was surprised that ben of all my friends hadn’t yet seen it, but it’s a great film. it’s an interview with robert mcnamara who fought in wwii, was president of ford, was secretary of defense during vietnam and the cold war and then the president of the world bank. throughout the film, they play now-declassified recordings between jfk and mcnamara and johnson and mcnamara and their strategies of the war. i’m sure i make it sound boring, but it’s fascinating to listen to their insight.

mcnamara also spends a lot of time explaining concepts of ethics and morality in war, and his own insight to how wars are won… kinda like a modern day ‘the art of war’.

i also think the dude looks just like eric =p

it started with 24oz beers, a pickup truck and a dare…

follow this if you can: me, my friend john galeano, costin, his friend pierre and lauren went to the movies the other day to see jackass 2… and to see a movie like that for all it’s worth, you need to watch it completely drunk… so after a few drinks at dinner, we went to the liquior store to properly prepare. i was going to buy a coors light 12oz six pack for $5.99, but then realized they had a 3 pack of 24oz beers for $3.99. still sober enough to do the simple math, i went with the latter. the movie was fucking hilarious and gross and insane. on one of the many bathroom breaks i had to take during the movie, i ran into john and pierre who were talking about how they wanted to jack the 8′ b0rat poster in the lobby. so after we got outta the movie, pierre pulled up front and john galeano just put it under his arm and walked out like he owned it. he got a smile and a giggle from a group of girls that saw him, but other than them, there were only a few concession people that might have seen it, and they were too far away to catch him even if they had wanted to. he tossed it in the bed and hopped in and we peeled out like we just robbed a bank. it’s funny how worked up and excited we had got about it… afterall, it was just a cardboard poster ;)

crikey! r.i.p. steve irwin

i’m not at all surprised to hear he died in the field, but he became such a celebrity that the news of his death still stings. i heard a brief blip about it on some wacky desert radio station as i was driving home from havasu on sunday night and they announced that he had died on monday, so i assumed that meant it happened a week ago, and the news was just being made public, but i had forgot that they are almost a full day ahead of us. yesterday costin had mentioned that when he saw the news and realized it hadn’t happened yet, he called ahead to warn him, but couldn’t get a hold of anyone that would listen.

i know that ads are probably mapped to key words in articles to make them more relevant, but how fucked up is this one?

talk about insensitive.

norma arnold, america’s mom

on friday night taka and i went to see the ben ackerman band (possibly the last time in that particular formation) play in redondo beach. like all the shows the best part is being able to just kick it with homies that you don’t see often enough. so during their set, this woman in her 40′s/50′s is rocking out to the music. she’s really into it and that’s what catches our attention. it takes a few minutes, a few lookups on eric’s treo, and a couple of bets before we realize it’s alley mills, norma arnold from the wonder years.

as soon as they finished their set, i walked over to her, just to confirm. she seemed almost too young to be the same woman, and she looked great for her age, wearing expensive jeans and a well fit top that would have led you to believe she was much younger than 55. we talked for a few minutes about how much of a fan i was of the show, and how kevin arnold was about the same age as me, so i really related to him and his experiences. she told me that fred savage was now married and had a child, and she congratulated me on being engaged. she then introduced me to her husband, actor orson bean (from dr. quinn medicine woman among other things). the most amazing thing about the experience was how she spoke to me with her head slightly cocked and with the warm mothering eyes that made norma arnold a lovable character. i wonder if she does that now out of habbit of being an actress, or if it was that quality that landed her the role as kevin’s mom.

as the conversation began to stall, eric came over, now realizing that it was infact norma arnold, and asked why the dvd’s of the wonder years haven’t yet come out. it was the perfect question, because apparently it was an issue she was very opinionated about. according to her, since there was so much great music in almost every episode of the show, there are a lot of licensing issues with putting them out on dvd. she said there had been attempts to replace some of the classic music with more generic music, but that it just wasn’t the same. so it remains to be seen if and when the dvd’s will ever be released.
