i’ve been having dinner with my dad at least once or twice a week since i moved up here and it’s funny how everybody knows everyone. my dad and his buddies ususally meet up at this karaoke pub, and every single one of them is connected to another gardena person or place. like last night this one dude who i guess was an fencer for japan in the 1968 olympics is dating the owner of sanuki no sato, that sweet udon & tonkatsu restaurant that i’ve been to a couple of times. One of Taka’s w-2s for a company that she worked for earlier this year had her social security number messed up, so Taka called the company and told them to fix it. Last night, this Japanese dude just handed me the fixed W-2, he’s the accountant for the company and knows my dad? This other guy is the president of the publishing company for half the magazines that Taka reads, and then this other guy that was there last night was my next door neighbor, literally.

the key to rising in the ranks of gardena society though appears to be the karaoke. these guys take it seriously. my dad even has a business card with the numbers of his songs written on it so he doesn’t even have to look at that big book. lol.

i think this’d be funny as hell to rock, but how the hell would i explain it to my friends/family that aren’t in the know?

now that i’m once again a hardcore honda fanboy, i’ve been reading and posting on different forums a lot more often. i was interested in some suspension parts someone was selling so i shot him a PM through the forum software:

me: “which coilovers are they? do you have any pics of it on your car? price?”

95sir: “Apexi EXV coilovers. i think they either 24 or 32 way adjustables. whats your email? i can email u some pics.”

so i send him my email address…

95sir: “ur email came back censored. LOL kento@ishi****a.com”

me: “man, that’s fucked up. that’s my real name.”

i was thinking about trying this jump, until chris beat me to it. needless to say, i didn’t bother after this:

i get to watch all kindsa good 80′s, 90′s and current music videos on the DTV channel “the tube” 5-5. it’s an over-the-air digital channel that just plays music videos 24/7, which you can’t even find on cable these days. if you have an HDtv, you should try hooking up a regular tv antenna to it. the local hd channels look better (compared to long beach charter hd), and there’s a few sub-channels (like 5-5) that are good, and all for free.

anyway, in the video for “it’s my life”, the singer mark hollis is totally just doing an impression of cameron from ferris bueller’s day off, doing an impression of principal rooney (when he’s pretending to be sloane’s father) it’s fantastic if you are familiar with both references, smirk-worth if you know of one, and pointless if you’ve never seen either. =p
