so mythbuster’s kari byron is pregnant?!

thank god mythbusters is back… i was about to start doing my own experiments. so i was watching the first show of the new season tonight and the first thing i noticed was that kari’s boobs were looking bigger. not implant bigger and i thought it might just have been the shirt, but a quick im to boob expert ben and i learned that kari’s pregnant! according to chikipedia, kari byron is married to some lucky guy named Paul Urich.

Here’s Kari’s Top 10 things she’s noticed about being pregnant on the show:

10. When Grant says “Holy crap, run!’ I can waddle at best.
9. My new keen sense of smell is a disadvantage when handling jars of gorilla poo, rotten ballistic gel, or smelly, old socks from fans.
8. My tummy keeps getting dirty, since I have no sense of how big I am.
7. I can’t tie my own shoes very well, and I wear knee-high work boots.
6. I made a ‘Costanza’ under my desk to I can take naps when no one is looking.
5. The baby knicks when I am using power tools.
4. I can’t see what I am stepping in.
3. I am starving all the time!
2. Until it was obvious, everyone thought I was just gaining weight!
1. If I drop a screwdriver and try to pick it up, sometimes i need help getting back up myself.

battlestar galactica finished!

a few days after the series finale of battlestar galactica aired, i decided to start watching the series. i had always heard from ben and rushubh and other geeks that it was as fun as lost but for whatever reason i never picked it up. it turned out to be a great show, and played like a 60 hour movie (yep, i watched about 60 hours of bsg in 15 days) and just like the o.c., by the time the series finished, i felt like i had real connections (well technically i’m probably related) with the characters and i was sad to see it end. definitely some of the best sci-fi i’ve seen in a long time. i really hope when lost wraps up next year that they do as good of a job.

taka had no interest in battlestar but her and i have started watching one tree hill to fill in our tv watching time together. the more pregnant she gets, the less we go out, so serialized tv shows have become part of our evening routine. i know it sounds like we’re getting old, but i consider this the calm before the storm. things are bound to get pretty exciting and hectic around here soon.

breakfast at the oc diner

taka and i have been watching a lot of the o.c. lately. we’re about halfway though season 3, so the end is near and this morning we thought we’d go have breakfast at the diner that the newport kids are always hanging out at. the show uses the redondo beach pier quite a bit since it’s pretty close to the raleigh studios the show was filmed at. the restaurant that was always just referred to as “the diner” is actually the redondo coffee shop on the redondo beach pier in king harbor. the food is just your mediocre diner food, but it was fun, since the inside was pretty much exactly like the show.

after breakfast we walked around a bit and i snapped a few other pics of popular the o.c. locations, like the bait shop:

and sandy cohen’s beach law office:

finished watching season 1 of the o.c.

oh man, that was fun. taka and i watched an episode or two almost every night, and season 2 should be here tomorrow or friday. taka’s completely hooked, and the ending was so good! is seth sailing to tahiti? is marissa becoming an alcoholic? is theresa’s baby really ryan’s? are they really gonna live and raise the kid in chino? is caleb really going broke? is julie then going to have a broke husband now that she’s married caleb? isn’t it ironic that jimmy is rich again? and it’s awesome that julie and caleb got married at the wayferers chappel since that’s where eric and tina got married.

i also finished my episode guide. i’m not sure if i’m going to bother with seasons 2-4, since it was a lot of damn work, takes away from me just watching and enjoying the show, and tv.com has a great episode guide that’s pretty complete. i’ll see what kind of traffic the episode 1 guide picks up before i start work on episode 2. in the meanwhile, you can read the episode 1 guide here:

shali, i put the season 1 dvds in the mail for you today :)

2 year anniversary of the end of “the o.c.”

this sunday after next will mark the 2nd year anniversary of the end of one of my favorite shows, the o.c. i remember getting together at shali’s house to watch the series finale and actually being kinda sad when it ended. so i figured it’s been long enough that it’s time to watch the series again. i ordered season 1 of the show and when i get close to finishing it, i’ll order up season 2. taka’s also kinda interested in watching it and since we finished watching friends, we need another semi-serialized drama to watch.

i’ve also started an episode guide that i’ll keep updating as i watch through the shows. it’s crazy watching the first episode and seeing how much they changed over 4 years. you can follow my episode guide here:

speaking of anniversaries, last Sunday was kentomatic.com’s 4-year anniversary!

dear cbs, please hire some more actors

the majority of the shows that i watch are on cbs. i know it used to be the old person’s network, but it has all of these crime shows i like, maybe i’m just getting old. anyway the problem i’m having with these shows is that the secondary actors, like the victims of the crimes, or their wives or husbands or the people that commit the crimes keep getting recycled between all of the other shows on the network. sometimes it gets confusing because they were a bad guy in another show and a victim in this one, and it just kills what little realism there is in tv. i’m sure they do their best to stagger these guys but since i like to watch the first run and reruns of csi, csi:miami, csi:new york, cold case, numb3rs, without a trace and the unit, sometimes i see the same guy on 2 shows in the same day.

i know, i know, i watch too much tv.

time warner cable finally gets some more hd programming

since i moved up to the south bay at the beginning of the year, i’ve had time warner cable which only has had about 15 channels in high definition. being a complete hd snob, it pained me to watch even the shows that i love like mythbusters, future weapons, how it’s made and a few others, mostly on the discovery channel.

so yesterday i saw a commercial saying that time warner has the most hd programming of all the cable companies and i angrily mumbled under my breath about how i used to have an hd discovery channel when i lived in long beach. i figured i’d check out the website to see what the hell they were talking about, and low and behold between now and february 2009, they’re updating the system with 13 more channels in hd, including my beloved discovery channel! ok, now just give me the bbc in hd, and i’m in cable tv heaven.

here are the new channels that i now have available in high definition:

hungover on saturday, watching dvds

on friday night, me, eric and ben went out drinking and 2 bars (well, restaurants), 2 beers and 3 martinis later i was pretty obnoxiously drunk and don’t remember much. what i do remember is waking up with a terrible hangover on saturday morning. luckily it wasn’t a sick-to-my-stomach hangover but just that foggy slow motion action that keeps you from doing anything. so after walking to store to get some rockstar i just watched tv for half the day until eric finally convinced me to go to the gym around 2pm.

so i got around to watching 2 dvds that i got from blockbuster last week. eastern promises is a movie about the russian mafia in london doing mafia things and having the typical internal mafia power conflicts. i swear half the cast were people that i’ve seen at dave’s parties. the plot line was a bit complicated to try to explain, but trust me it was a really good movie (88% fresh).

after that taka and i watched feast of love which i hadn’t even heard of, but the dvd cover had morgan freeman and greg kinear so i figured it had to be good. later on i looked it up and it actually was in theatres, but only made about $3m and was 41% fresh on rotten tomatoes. the story is just about a bunch of different people in love and different kinds of love. the thing is, it’s about intense, complicated love, kinda like closer, but a lot more tittes and a little bit of heart-warming morgan freeman thrown in.

eventually eric dragged my ass off my couch and another rockstar and back workout got me back to normal so the day wasn’t a complete waste. but yeh, definitely not as young as i used to be.

in case you weren’t sure that the galleria mall was ghetto

it’s strange, because during the day, the people at galleria southbay mall are mainly trendy, rich redondo beach moms with their kids, but after work hours and on the weekends, it reminds me of the old mall in downtown long beach that only sold shoes.

this sign was on the door of the amc movie theatre inside the mall. i’m not sure if that means that weapons are ok in the rest of the mall and not the theatre, or if there was another sign on the main door that i missed and this was just a reminder.

by the way, tropic thunder was fucking hilarious.

i just watched all 5 season of “las vegas”

over the last 5 months, tnthd had been playing the entire las vegas series in order, with a new episode every weekday at 9am. so each day when i got home, i’d fire up my tivo and find the time to watch the 40+ minute show. las vegas was seriously the best t&a show on network television with some of the hottest girls i’d ever seen. i also loved how they’d always have a guest star playing some corny role. one of my favorites was in the final season when tom selleck was the owner of the montecito, and his two “poker buddies” from hawaii came out to see him… they ended up being the actors who played rick and tc on magnum p.i.

the show itself was pretty ridiculous. they were always using technology that didn’t exist, always getting robbed, always had way too many hot girls in way too little clothing, but it was always entertaining, and i really grew to love all the characters and their wacky antics. the thing that sucks is that the show isn’t going to be renewed, and the 5th season left so many questions unanswered. who crashed in the montecito jet? is delinda’s baby going to be ok? are danny and delinda going to get married? what about mike and piper? the deline’s got a divorce?! i really hope that they at least make a 2 hour special to wrap things up, ’cause i’m just not going to be right until i know the answer to these questions.
