drew carey sucks as the host of the price is right
i used to love watching the price is right when i was a kid playing hookie from school. i’d been waiting to see it hosted by drew carey for a while now and since i have this week off of work, i finally got a chance to see him. verdict = he sucks.
i know he’s new, so it might take some time for him to get settled in his role, but he’s super unenthusiastic, can’t remember his lines or what he’s supposed to do, and he’s fatter than his drew carey show days. the best part is that all the contestants keep accidentally calling him “bob.”

Drew Carey is not Bob, Blob is more like it. He is completely out of his element.
Oh please. Bob Barker was kind of an arrogant snob of a host. He seriously needed to retire. The contestants are freer with Drew Carey. Drew isn’t a jerk like Bob is.
Drew really sucks and I love Drew. He is NOT a good choice for host. Bob knew the dynamics of the show and how to keep it going. He was NOT arrogant and if he was he paid his dues with the 30+ years he was on there. Drew doesn’t care and acts like he’s above the show. I don’t think he appreciates it.
He didn’t have the longevity award for daytime TV for nothing. He loved what he was doing? Drew is a funny guy but he’s just doing it, he doesn’t love it like Bob.. He connected with the people, we just did’nt know it growing up…
How bought he legally change his name to Bob Carey? Then when the crowd says “Bob” it’ll be ok.. lol…
I just think he was tootooo original “love him or not” Bob Barker” typecasted “The Price is Right” Anybody, who tries will be f….. I think they should bring bob back for at least one show… I wonder would he even care if they pay him..
They could have found a more suitable replacement to make sure the show still carries weight on the network - i think CBS just didn’t know what to do with Drew Carrey because he was under contract… I think they will soon realize that he sucks - and they will bring in somebody more like bob to save the show
or they will just cancel it…

I watched the Drew version for the first time today, and it made me sad. I think, though, that the reason Drew comes across as uninspired is, Bob was a true professional. He made it seem that he was never tired of games that had been played hundreds of times.

Drew Carey absolutely blows as the host of Price Is Right. Did no one consider Chuck Woolery as a replacement host? Or SOMEBODY else that has some experience? Carey has killed this show for me and many others, I’m sure.
I’m in the same boat as haley. Drew Carey has killed this show and I’m very sad about it. Hope CBS wakes up soon and smells the Carey ’cause TPIR still has great possibilities.
Watching PiR right now and yeah Carey is awful. His voice never registers any real emotion. He’s just going through the motions. Bob Barker got into it. He’d emote with the contestant, he’d connect with the camera and talk to tvland. I got nothing against Carey and he was fine as host of Whose Line (not as good as Clive from the original UK show though), but he is ruining the PiR without a doubt.

I was a huge PIR fan for years. Because I work full time, I would DVR the show and watch it when I could. I’ve tried watching Drew and just can’t get into him. I no longer tape the show. I guess I’m more of a Bob Barker fan; not necessarily a fan of TPIR. If they get a new host, I’ll give it another shot. Til then, I’ll tape Oprah.
It really is unwatchable now. Drew comes off like a molested child. Empty.
Drew is boring. He’s not into the show at all. A woman just won $95,000 worth of crap and he’s like “oh..you win”
I just watched TPIR for the first time tonight with Drew. Man he is so bad, a wooden statue could show more emotion than he does. John O’Hurley would be good he is great on Family Feud and has personality. I won’t be watching TPIR again, it is agony, no energy and puts me to sleep.
i’ve got the flu right now, and i was totally stoked to watch the price is right this morning. drew carey has ruined the show - he’s creepy as hell w/ the girls… sad thing is that i googled “drew carey sucks” just to make sure that i wasnt the only one completely annoyed with the new host. why did bob have to retire?!?
the problem with him is that he has zero stage presence, which is required of actors and actresses of plays, opera performances, etc., including game show hosts. his voice doesn’t command, it sort of blurs in with the PIR music and the cheering and applause from the audience. he mumbles too and doesn’t heighten the dramatic effect of winning. his jokes aren’t funny either…poor fat man. his “power” show as pulled too.

Today i watched TPIR and boy Drew Carey has zero charisma. It seems as if he is just doing it for the paycheck by going thru the motions of hosting the program in addition he doesn’t put any effort at trying to be excited that people have won prizes and when he does it is simply not convincing. As someone else mentioned he tends to mumble jokes that are simply not funny. but one thing that he has accomplished which is physically impossible that he sucks and blows at the same time.
Drew Carey is the worst host EVER. Of course no one could replace the lovable Bob but I think it would be super duper neat if Ellen Degeneres was the new host. Bob Barker is such a cheese wiz,and he was the biggest mistake ever made by the producers on The Price is Right!!!!!!!!!
I just got finished watching TPIRMDS and I must say it looks like Drew is definitely not having fun. He was so monotone tonight that it was pathetic. There was no excitement when the contestants won. I’ve been a lifelong game show fan as well as a TPIR fan. I realize that anyone who took over for Bob Barker would have a hard time filling his shoes, but I think Drew has had plenty of time now. Supposedly, he knows more than 30 games, but still has trouble explaining them. Even I know more games then he does. Now I have always been a fan of Drew Carey’s shows, but TPIR is getting painful to watch. Drew was definately a better game show host on Power of 10 then he is on TPIR. Drew has signed for five years, but I don’t think he is going to last. CBS should start looking for a replacement now, before it is too late. I would like to throw my hat into the ring as possible replacements. I know I can do a better job than Drew given the chance to prove myself.

are you watching the same show I am? Bob Barker was the epitome of snob. He controlled the show to a large degree and would get the models fired if they wouldn’t sleep with him, WHILE he was married. Barker was an exceptional host, great voice, old hand at it, but he is and was most certainly arrogant.
Carey talks too fast and his voice is not that great. He doesn’t look comfortable touching people like Bob did. He’ll probably get better, but I did just see him tease people for the infamous bid of 1 dollar higher than the previous highest bid.
He seems more real than Bob ever did. Maybe it’s because I’m from the midwest and have actually been to cleveland :)
ok the more I watch this show the worse it gets… I turned the channel and I was pumped to see it with Drew… ugh! I officially agree now that Drew is horrible for the show.
I watched a show that finally had the hole in one game. Drew didn’t even try to make the putt. Just banged it off the back, did his heuh heuh laugh and thought to himself I am cute. Jackass. The great new twists “oh mighty sound effects lady” and “alakazams” “Hi’s” at the wheel have to go. I hate, I hate, I really hate how he repeats himself constantly. It really drives me crazy,I hate it. It would probably take 5 minutes for Drew to explain a coin toss. I could probably learn to live with the stuttering and the “watch me talk real fast I be must be smart” idiot,if I don’t have to go blow my brains out because he keeps repeating himself. Sorry Drew you might not be an idiot, but save the blunts for after the show. Oh and as for you cafetino. Bob was a class act. The best.#1 game show host of all time. [In fact I would rather you show respect and adress him as mr. Barker].So if he controlled the show, even more props. As for sleeping with the models….o,h well, his show wasn’t on sundays.

everyone stfu about Bob. He sucks, and always has. He is arrogant, scornful and condescending. He didn’t give a shit about any of his contestants and was probably snorting lines in his dressing room between commercials. Drew is actually funny and cares about the contestants. Hes WAYYYY more down to earth than bob, not an arrogant prick and actually entertaining to watch. FUCK BOB.
I have nothing against Drew Carey at all, its just that he doesnt add excitment to the show what so ever. Like you all said, he doesnt show any emotion, and his voice just drags out. Its a game show, its supposed to be fun and exciting, and he just makes it so boring and bland. Of course, no one will be able to fill Bob Barker’s shoes as the host, but they could have chosen someone better. I highly doubt he will continue to be the host for much longer. Bob made the show fun and exciting for the contestants .. Drew is just like ..there.
I’m watching the million dollar show right now and Drew just told a woman she was “going to spin first because she blew her first chance” Bob would have never told a contestant they “blew it”. I remember Drew saying he was born to host this show. Sh*t my dog would do a better job than Drew. No excitement, no class, no true understanding of the games, move on drew. TPIR needs a new host.

THREE WORDS,,,, DREW CAREY SUCKS!!!!!!! as the host of THE PRICE IS RIGHT…… Drew runs the show alot different than what Bob Barker use too doo, i cant stand watching the show that much anymore,,,,, when they spin the wheel,,, DREW would ask them..WANNA SAY HI TOO ANYONE,,,, Bob never did that,,,, he would let them concentrate on the wheel, the people would say hi when they want, not after they spin the wheel… Drew would say too the contestants HI HOW ARE YOU WELCOME TOO THE SHOW, while they are coming on down…. the contestants cant hear what Drew is saying because the Crowd is cheering……. My 3 year old twins LOVED the price is right when BOB was on. THEY NEVER MOVED!! Since Drew has been on NONE of us can stand the show any longer. Its kind of like “I have a contract it doesn’t matter if I suck, lets just get through this”. He is just THERE!

I always enjoyed the show, until Drew Carey. I did say, lets give him a chance, but he is soooooooo boring. I think Jack Webb (Joe Friday of Dragnet) would be a better and more exciting host compared to Drew Carey (if he were alive) Heck even dead Jack Webb would be more exciting. Get a new host that will engage the studio audience and TV audience.
Over the years, there have been many other hosts of The Price is Right. There was an evening version of TPIR as well as fill in’s for Bob. I can’t remember them all, but here are a few:

The Price is Right not only has made serious errors in choosing Drew Carey, but bad choices in announcers.
Nobody will beat Johnny Olsen or Rod Roddy.
The announcer now is WEAK TOO! I like the “hype” high-energy animated voices on a game show. This current guy (see, I can’t even remember his name) FORCES his voice and is not good at all.
There would have been much better choices like:
Chris Harrison (of The Bachelor fame)
Al Roker - yes, that sounds nuts until I saw him host a bad version on Celebrity Family Feud the other night. The premise of the show was bad, but he was VERY, VERY good and exciting to listen to as well.
Tom Bergeron (of Hollywood Squares fame and America’s Funniest Home Videos)
Ryan Seacrest (of American Idol)
Any of these guys and and several others I did not think of would have been light years ahead of Drew Carey!
Am I just that smart or would this have been a VERY easy choice NOT TO CHOOSE DREW CAREY and pick one of these other guys???
This guy has made a “shout out fest” of the big wheel. Who cares about Joe from Pheonix’s mom and dad and little cousin Tommy? Start watching the wheel and maybe you can be as good as Bob one day. That man could tell where the wheel would land when it was half way around. He could actually add the totals of the wheel too… Learn the lines also.
