walmart is the cheapest place to get tires installed (along with everything else)

i remember when i was back in california, walmart was a place i would have been embarrassed to be seen in. i think the only times i ever went there was with eric on weekends to get random fishing and other cheap stuff.

here in north texas, walmart doesn’t have the same stigma, and it really is the cheapest place to get just about everything. i had bought 2 new rear tires from tirerack.com for my s2000, and had to get them installed. i called NTB: $65 for install/balance. discount tire: $51. pepboys: $42. walmart? 14 freaking dollars. they’ve got the same mounting and balancing machine at the other places and do the same job for a fraction of the price. they also didn’t require an appointment, i was in an out in about 15 minutes, and got to buy other cheap stuff at walmart while i was waiting.

save money. live better.

guess who’s back?

a lot of time has passed since i last posted on this blog. we’re still here in north texas, jasmine is growing up so fast, we bought a house and everything is going well. i realize how much free time i used to have when i would constantly blog about everything. i’ve been so busy doing things these days that i haven’t had any time to post about it, but i’m going to try to at least put up some of the bigger things that happen around here.

other than work, and setting up the house (you californians would be sick to hear the price i paid for a custom built 4 bedroom house here) i’ve been playing a lot of golf. i started playing golf quite a few years ago, but it hasn’t been until recently that i’ve found my swing. golf here in texas is pretty cheap and there’s lots of beautiful courses. i play just about every weekend, and CAN NOT break 100. i’ve had lots of 100, 101, 102 games, but that 99 continues to elude me. i’ve been playing at some pretty difficult courses lately though, so i think if i go back to one of the easier courses i started at, i should be able to do it.

anyway, here’s to a resurgence of blogging. hope all my readers are doing well and haven’t forgotten about me.

woohoo, 5 day weekend!

well, tomorrow i’m teleworking, so i guess it’s really only a 4 day weekend, but at least i don’t have to go into the office for the next 5 days. i’m still recovering from last weekend, where last friday me and the guys went drinking and bowling and i got way too drunk. for some reason every time i missed a critical shot, i’d punch the little score computer and i started doing it harder and harder. well now i have scabs on two of my knuckles and my wrist is really sore, dumb. on saturday i was hungover and throwing up until the evening so that day was a complete waste and then on sunday me and eric were playing army up in the mountains and i rolled my foot when i tripped on a rock, dumb. i’ll be more careful this weekend. all i plan to do is go to a car show, a gun show and eat turkey. gobble gobble!

what a weird weekend

since thursday, i’ve been on a good dosage of vicodin for the pain from my wisdom teeth extraction so everything already has been kinda foggy. the steroid i’m taking also has “euphoria” listed as a side effect, so with those two combined, every thing’s been weird. i played gears of war 2 and finished it on saturday morning, and while i think it was fun, i really don’t even remember it. i’ll have to play it again.

for some crazy reason, it’s been almost 90 degrees for the last couple of days here, and it’s been so smokey from all of these california fires in los angeles and the oc that there’s been an ominous orange glow outside which combined with my already foggy vision and memory just makes it all the more strange. i’ve only been eating pureed food and protein shakes, so that’s weird, and i got these 4 huge holes in my mouth. anyway i’m almost out of vicodin and today am trying to switch off to motrin anyway. i talked to my boss today and i think i’m going to take monday off as well and hopefully things will be back to normal by tuesday.

my 15 seconds of patriotic fame

while i’m just as patriotic as any american, i don’t think i’ve ever owned or flown an american flag, but seeing a flag on the ground has been engraved in my mind as something that’s just wrong. so today which was windy as hell here in redondo beach, as i was leaving the gym, i saw a large flag blowing down redondo beach blvd. it had kinda stopped in the center lane, so i pulled over and ran out to grab it, but the stupid fucking wind kept blowing it further away, so here i was chasing the flag down 4 lanes of traffic. before i kept running, i looked up and fortunately cars in both directions stopped for me. after like 100 feet, i caught up to it, and drivers from two of the cars actually waved as they drove past me as i was walking back to my car. anyway it was one of those proud-to-be-an-american moments. i’ll hang it off my balcony on tuesday for veterans day.

the nadal / federer match was so exciting

That taka and I went and picked up my racket from my mom’s place and bought her a new one at big 5. I haven’t played tennis in years, and I’ve never really watched tennis before, but the Wimbledon match on Sunday got me excited about it again. I was literally on the edge of my seat for 4 hours (actually I took a break for the gym, TiVo rocks)… watching tennis! We’ll prolly play a few times and then not play for a few years, but at least it’ll get us off the couch.
