“it’s my life” - talk talk

i get to watch all kindsa good 80’s, 90’s and current music videos on the DTV channel “the tube” 5-5. it’s an over-the-air digital channel that just plays music videos 24/7, which you can’t even find on cable these days. if you have an HDtv, you should try hooking up a regular tv antenna to it. the local hd channels look better (compared to long beach charter hd), and there’s a few sub-channels (like 5-5) that are good, and all for free.

anyway, in the video for “it’s my life”, the singer mark hollis is totally just doing an impression of cameron from ferris bueller’s day off, doing an impression of principal rooney (when he’s pretending to be sloane’s father) it’s fantastic if you are familiar with both references, smirk-worth if you know of one, and pointless if you’ve never seen either. =p

wtf, how do you post this and not post the youtube video along with it?

ps. not to be a hater or anything, but “its my life” came out in 1984 and ferris came out in 1986…

well he’s not actually trying to impersonate him, it just ends up seeming that way, that’s why it’s funny. if he was doing it on purpose, it’d be a fact and hardly noteworthy.

anyway weird, the music video on youtube is different than the one that i saw on my music channel. it’s the voice that makes it funny though. imagine cameron talking to rooney:

    what antenna do you reccomend?

there’s an antenna on the top of my apartment’s roof, that i can plug into, so i use that. i bought a usb hdtv tuner for my laptop though that came with the crappiest little antenna, and it was able to pick up all but 2 of the major channels just fine, so i’m assuming just about anything would work?

and i don’t think there’s any difference between regular and HDTV antennas, because as ben and eric pointed out, HDTV is still sent via a regular old-school analog signal.

the video was suppose to show how lame it was that a lot of bands at the time were lipsinking at their shows.
